Dementia Art

Following up a few emails and a short trip to an old peoples home I've been given the opportunity to paint one of their corridors. So to say the least I was all over it and asked Ed if he would like to help. Since then We've measured all the walls and Ed is in the process if making a computerised model of the area so we can reference the space when we aren't their. Thank god for computer nerds :) It's a pretty big job so it's gonna be at least a months worth of planning. I have dived right into it however and produced a list of ideas. Now the people on this floor are elderly people who suffer dementia. So the brain storming has revolved around iconic imagery and events around 1950 1960. I don't know how much you know about dementia but it causes a wide variety of mental illnesses and basically the sufferer slowly looses their mind. This means nearly all short term memory is gone but it's not uncommon for them to retain long term memory for quite a while. Hence the large amounts of fashion and car research I've been doing. To be honest I'm just overjoyed at the idea of been able to draw giant breakfast at Tiffany murals.
